About Council of Churches of The Ozarks
The Council of Churches of the Ozarks, located in Springfield, Missouri, is an ecumenical ministry born in 1969 from the vision of Rev. Dr. Dorsey Levell and community leaders who recognized that churches working together could serve vulnerable neighbors more effectively than any single congregation alone. Operating as Crosslines Community Outreach, the organization has grown from its original food pantry—still the area's largest—to a comprehensive network of services spanning shelter, education, advocacy, and essential support across more than 49 counties in Southwest Missouri. With membership from over 70 churches and 6,000 active supporters, the Council embodies Christian compassion through programs including the Safe to Sleep shelter for women, Math and Reading Buddy Programs, foster care support, and senior services. The organization recently announced a major expansion to a new 57,000 square foot centralized facility that will dramatically increase its capacity to serve those experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, and other hardships in the region.
