About Council of Churches of the Ozarks

The Council of Churches of the Ozarks is an ecumenical Christian outreach organization based in Springfield, Missouri, with roots tracing back to 1969 when Rev. Dr. Dorsey Levell and other community leaders united thirteen churches around a vision of compassionate service to vulnerable neighbors. Operating as the Springfield Area Council of Churches before its 1990 expansion, the organization has grown to include over 70 member churches and 6,000 active supporters serving more than 49 counties in Southwest Missouri. Their mission centers on improving quality of life through programs including the area's largest food pantry (Crosslines), emergency shelter services, advocacy, education support, and assistance for seniors and children in foster care. The Council recently moved to a centralized 57,000 square-foot facility to better coordinate their multifaceted outreach and strengthen their capacity to serve those experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, and other hardships across the region.
