The parish was originally established in 1910 by Ukrainian and Ruthenian immigrants who came to work at the Standard Oil facility, and the current church building has stood on a hilltop overlooking the Missouri River since 1926. After periods of closure and transition, the parish was revitalized in the 1980s and continues to draw worshippers from across the Kansas City region who travel up to 100 miles for liturgy each week. The church has undergone significant renewal in recent years, including restoration of its interior with new iconography and furnishings completed in 2017. Under the pastoral leadership of Father John Russell, who began in July 2025, the parish has experienced growth and established a building fund to expand its facilities to serve its expanding congregation.
