About Newton Meeting Religious Society Of Friends
Newton Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends is a Quaker community in Camden, New Jersey, with roots dating to 1679, making it the sole remaining structure representing the early European settlers of the region. The meeting gathers for silent worship every first and third Sunday at 10:30 a.m., emphasizing the Quaker belief that God is equally available to all people without need for formal clergy or creeds. Situated on property that comprises most of a city block, the meetinghouse is surrounded by lush gardens and play space that reflect the community's commitment to stewardship and service. Newton Meeting maintains the traditional Quaker testimonies of pacifism, social equality, integrity, and simplicity, and has a long history of outreach to Camden residents. Visitors are warmly invited to join the approximately one-hour silent worship and to stay afterward for coffee and community conversation.
