About Macedonia Baptist Church
Macedonia Baptist Church is a historic Baptist congregation in Cape May with roots reaching back to 1892, when efforts began to establish a colored Baptist church in the city. It was officially recognized by the West New Jersey Association in 1895 as Macedonia Baptist Church, and is described as the only remaining mostly Black church congregation in Cape May today. The church’s property includes the Historic Howell House, restored as the Harriet Tubman Museum of Cape May, New Jersey. Macedonia also connects its history with the wider story of Black churches and the Negro spiritual in Cape May through a historical presentation on that theme.
