Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Hackensack has served its community since its founding in 1890, when Bishop Winand M. Wigger of the Diocese of Newark established the parish in the southern section of the city. The church began as a frame building with high gothic windows, dedicated on November 8, 1891, and has undergone numerous improvements over its long history, including interior renovations, new windows installed in 1975, and new pews added in 1988. The parish also operates Immaculate Conception School, established in 1904, which relocated to a new building dedicated in 1961. Throughout its 130-year tradition, the church has ministered to the spiritual needs of Hackensack residents while maintaining its commitment to serve the community, the nation, and God.
