About Ohel Simha Congregation
Ohel Simha Congregation is a Sephardic Syrian synagogue located on Park Avenue in Long Branch, New Jersey, serving the Jersey Shore community for over three decades. Founded in 1989 as a memorial to Simha Mamiye Dabbah and initially established as a local minyan, the congregation has grown into a vibrant spiritual center under the guidance of Rabbi Shmuel Choueka. The synagogue is deeply committed to preserving Sephardic Syrian traditions, including traditional liturgical practices, cantorial music, and Jewish law. In 2008, the congregation expanded significantly with the addition of a 19,000-square-foot facility known as the Park Avenue Shul, which includes additional prayer rooms, meeting spaces, and a social hall. Ohel Simha offers year-round programming including a robust Talmud Torah program with classes for men, women, and children, while maintaining the warmth and close-knit atmosphere of its early days as a neighborhood minyan.
