About The Seamen's Church Institute
The Seamen's Church Institute, founded in 1834, has served as North America's largest and most comprehensive seafarer and mariner service agency for nearly two centuries. Based in Newark, New Jersey, SCI carries out its mission through pastoral care, crisis response, maritime education and training, navigational and vessel safety programs, and mariner advocacy. The Institute supports both international seafarers and U.S. mariners through trained chaplains, the Center for Maritime Education, and the Center for Mariner Advocacy, addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those in the maritime industry. SCI's work encompasses crisis intervention, chaplaincy services, simulator training, legal advocacy, and global policy initiatives—all grounded in a commitment to compassion, dependability, and integrity toward the mariners and seafarers who sustain world commerce.
