About Carmelite Monastery

The Carmelite Monastery in Santa Fe is a traditional community of Discalced Carmelite Nuns dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Teresa of Jesus. Situated in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the monastery has called Santa Fe home for 72 years, embracing a lifestyle of rugged simplicity that reflects the contemplative charism of the Carmelite order. The community strives to live a balanced life of silence and solitude alongside public and private prayer, rooted in the spiritual legacy of saints including John of the Cross, Thérèse of Lisieux, and Elizabeth of the Trinity. Through their commitment to the evangelical counsels of obedience, chastity, and poverty, the nuns create a space where visitors and those discerning a religious vocation may encounter the presence of God. The monastery welcomes inquiries from those who feel called to deeper spiritual commitment and contemplative life.
