About Hamakom

HaMakom is a welcoming Jewish community in Santa Fe that draws from both the Renewal and Conservative traditions. Founded in 2000 after High Holiday services led by Rabbi Emerita Malka Drucker and musician Debbie Friedman, the congregation is led today by Rabbi Jack Shlachter, known as the physics rabbi for his background in theoretical physics and work at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Hazzan Cindy Freedman, an accomplished cantor and musician who has led the community since 2004. Worship is enhanced through the power of prayer, music, and sound, reflecting the congregation's commitment to engaging people deeply in spiritual practice. The community is actively involved in supporting Israel and fostering connections within the greater Jewish community of Santa Fe.
