About Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church
Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, founded in 1928 in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, has grown into a vibrant multicultural and multi-generational congregation serving the north Bronx community. As a parish of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, the church centers its identity around prayer and worship, offering multiple weekly liturgies featuring the Holy Eucharist and emphasizing Christ's presence in Word and Sacrament. The congregation has a rich history of community engagement, hosting events ranging from potluck suppers and talent shows to Vacation Bible School and partnerships with local civic organizations. Under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Dien Ashley Taylor, who was installed in 2001, Redeemer has experienced renewed growth and energy while maintaining its commitment to welcoming newcomers of every background. The church building, completed in the 1950s with additions in 1964, continues to serve as a space for worship, Christian education, and community gatherings.
