About Union Reformed Church Of Highbridge

Union Reformed Church of Highbridge, located at 1272 Ogden Avenue in the Bronx, has deep historical roots tracing back to 1860 when a religious society was established to serve Protestant residents of Highbridgeville. The congregation was formally organized as the Union Reformed Church of Highbridge in 1874, and by the mid-1880s, the community had grown substantially. The striking Richardsonian Romanesque church building was designed by Alfred E. Barlow and constructed between 1887 and 1888, featuring distinctive rock-faced gneiss ashlar with red sandstone trim and a square bell tower at the southeast corner. The church notably contains a Tiffany Glass Company stained-glass rose window installed in 1889. Though the original congregation disbanded in 2005, the beautifully preserved building has continued to serve the community since January 2006 as home to the Highbridge Community Church, which was founded by the Fordham Manor Reformed Church. The structure was designated a New York City landmark in November 2010, recognizing its architectural and historical significance.
