About St John-St Matthew-Emanuel Lutheran Church
St. John-St. Matthew-Emanuel Lutheran Church is a historic Brooklyn congregation rooted in the merger of three Lutheran parishes in 1974, bringing together St. Matthew Evangelical English Lutheran Church (established 1859), St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and The German Evangelical Emanuel Lutheran Church. The church is deeply committed to welcoming all people regardless of race, culture, ethnicity, sexual identity, age, or ability, having voted to become a Reconciling in Christ congregation in 1994. Through Word and Sacrament, the community gathers for worship, Christian education, and service guided by Scripture and Lutheran Confessions. The congregation offers Sunday worship with Holy Communion, Sunday School during the school year, Bible study, and support ministries including Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon meetings. The church's ministry extends into the wider community through Prospect Hill Senior Services Center, founded in 1974 as a ministry of the congregation.
