About St John The Evangelist Parish
St. John the Evangelist Church is a historic community of faith located in Camden, New Jersey, with roots extending back to the 1940s when believers migrating from the South established a place of worship together. Officially incorporated in 1952 as The Saint John Church of the Apostolic Faith, the congregation has been led through decades of spiritual growth by devoted pastoral leadership, including Bishop Carlyle Tarte and his wife Mother Mary Jane Tarte, whose prophetic ministry drew many to faith and transformation. The church moved to its current location at 220 North 27th Street in East Camden in 1979 and continues to thrive under the pastoral care of Bishop Michael and Pastor Malinda Blue since October 2021. Devoted to teaching, preaching, and modeling the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, St. John aspires to develop Christ-like leaders who serve and transform their community. The congregation welcomes visitors to experience contemporary worship rooted in historical faith tradition.
