About Sisters of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with deep roots in service and spiritual community, tracing its origins to 17th-century France and establishing its presence in Philadelphia since 1847. Located in Cohoes, New York, this community continues the founding charism of uniting neighbors with one another and with God through spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The Sisters have a rich history of responding to urgent social needs, from nursing during the Civil War to ministering in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community aid services. Today, approximately 500 members, along with 600 Associates in Mission, work across twelve states to address the needs of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Visitors are welcomed to join this active faith community dedicated to the incarnation of unioning love and Gospel witness.
