About Sisters of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, with a Flushing, New York presence, represent a Catholic congregation tracing its roots to seventeenth-century France and established in Philadelphia in 1847. Guided by a charism of unioning love—bringing neighbor to neighbor and all to God—the sisters have ministered across hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community services for nearly two centuries. Today approximately 500 sisters and 600 associates continue this mission of spiritual and corporal works of mercy, responding to the needs of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. The congregation emphasizes nonviolence as gospel witness and invites visitors and partners to join in fulfilling their vision of unity with God and one another.
