About First United Methodist Church of Oneonta
First United Methodist Church of Oneonta is an inclusive Methodist congregation rooted in Oneonta's faith community since 1830, when Reverend George Harman organized the initial Methodist Class Meeting that evolved into today's church. The current sanctuary, dedicated in 1926, welcomes all people regardless of age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, abilities, or background, affirming the sacred worth of every person as a beloved child of God. Since 1989, the church has been part of the Reconciling Ministries Network, advocating for full inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community in church life and leadership.
