About Maetreum Cybele
The Maetreum of Cybele is a modern reclaiming of the ancient Mother Goddess tradition centered on the deity Cybele, established in 1998 and relocated to Palenville, New York in 2002. Located at the former Phrygianum property in the Catskill Mountains, the church welcomes all people regardless of gender identity, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation to join their spiritual community. The Maetreum offers full clerical services including weddings, memorial services, and baby blessings, and operates WLPP-LP, America's first Pagan-owned FM radio station. The organization emphasizes charitable outreach, scholarly historical research into ancient Cybeline practices, and a horizontal priestess structure where all clergy are considered equals dedicated to ministry and service. Currently, services are held at the outdoor temple, and the Phrygianum remains open for visits from community members and seekers interested in Goddess spirituality.
