About Poughkeepsie Friends Quaker Meeting
Poughkeepsie Friends Quaker Meeting is a welcoming faith community rooted in over 300 years of Quaker tradition in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Gathered at Oakwood Friends School, the meeting practices unprogrammed worship, gathering in silent expectancy each Sunday morning to experience the Inner Light, with messages arising only as the Spirit moves. Visitors of all backgrounds—whether curious seekers, members of other faith traditions, or those exploring Quaker belief—are embraced as part of the community. The meeting extends hospitality to families with First Day (Sunday) school and childcare available, and offers both in-person and online participation. Beyond worship, the congregation is active in social justice work, community outreach, and prison ministry, reflecting the historic Quaker commitment to equality and that of God in everyone.
