Sovereign Grace Baptist Church is a Baptist congregation located in Syracuse, New York, with a rich history spanning over four decades. Founded in 1979 by Pastor Erskine Dodson as a Bible study with just one teenage attendee, the church grew through faithful ministry and prayer, officially organizing in 1983 with thirteen charter members. The church built its own facility in 1988 and achieved full financial independence by becoming debt-free in 2013. Under the current leadership of Rev. James Mathis Jr., who began serving as Senior Pastor in 2016, Sovereign Grace remains committed to Bible teaching and preaching, welcoming both members and visitors who seek a community focused on Christ-centered worship and spiritual growth.
