About St John the Baptist
St. John the Baptist Church in Syracuse is the oldest Roman Catholic parish in Onondaga County, established in 1819 and originally part of the Diocese of Albany. The current church building was constructed after the Civil War to replace the original wood frame structure on North Salina Street. In 2009, the parish merged with Holy Trinity Church, creating a unified faith community that continues to serve the Syracuse area. The church is part of the Diocese of Syracuse and maintains an active spiritual life through regular Mass celebrations and sacramental ministries.
