About Zen Center of Syracuse
The Zen Center of Syracuse, established in 1972, is one of the oldest continuously operating Zen centers in the United States, rooted in the authentic tradition of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. Located on six acres of serene woodlands and gardens along Onondaga Creek, the center is led by Shinge Roshi, who has studied and practiced Zen Buddhism for over 60 years and received her title as Zen Master in 2008. The center offers regular meditation practice, teachings, retreats, and study sessions designed to cultivate intuitive wisdom and help practitioners respond to life's circumstances with greater insight and compassion. All are welcome to practice regardless of background or experience, with newcomers encouraged to attend an orientation session before their first visit. The community is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, welcoming a global membership both in-person and online through Zoom.
