About Sisters of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with roots tracing back to 17th-century France, founded on the principle of uniting neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God. Established in Philadelphia in 1847, the community of more than 500 sisters has served the region through hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community aid services for nearly two centuries. The congregation carries forward a charism of mercy and service, particularly focused on addressing the needs of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Today, the Sisters of Saint Joseph continue their mission of incarnating unioning love and responding to urgent challenges in the church and world. The congregation welcomes visitors and those interested in their spiritual mission to learn more about their history and ongoing work.
