About First Congregational Church
First Congregational United Church of Christ in Asheville welcomes people of all backgrounds into its diverse, justice-oriented community. Founded in 1914, the congregation has a long history of progressive witness, from early social justice commitments to its current designations as both an Open and Affirming church and a Creation Justice Church. Worship happens Sundays at 10:30 a.m. at 20 Oak Street, featuring varied music from chancel and hand bell choirs alongside guest musicians. The church emphasizes radical hospitality, spiritual depth, and engagement with local and global communities through acts of love, mercy, peace, and justice. Visitors of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations are warmly invited to join the congregation in its faith and action.
