About St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church
St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Burlington, North Carolina has been serving the local Orthodox Christian community since its opening day ceremony on November 28, 1971, when Bishop Iakovos led the Divine Liturgy with state dignitaries in attendance. The parish expanded in 1991 with the addition of a Fellowship Hall and currently has approximately 40 member families. The church is led by Fr. Demetrios Sean Govostes and maintains the traditional Byzantine liturgy supported by chanters and occasional choir accompaniment. Beyond worship, the parish community engages in Sunday school, Greek language instruction, and the Ladies Philoptohos Society, while raising funds through member contributions and annual community events such as pastry sales and souvlaki dinners that draw broad local participation.
