About Duke's Chapel Umc
Duke's Chapel UMC in Durham, North Carolina is a United Methodist congregation with a rich history spanning nearly two centuries. Originally founded in 1825 as Mount Hebron at a brush-arbor meeting place, the church was renamed Duke's Chapel in 1885, becoming the first institution to carry the Duke name. The current stone building, completed in 1927 and designed by renowned architect Julian Abele, is considered one of the most historic rural churches in North Carolina. Today, Duke's Chapel strives to exhibit the love of Jesus Christ for all persons both inside and outside the community, believing that Christ is present and active throughout all of life. The congregation welcomes visitors to join them in worship and become part of their ministry, which includes service to the homeless and marginalized groups in the surrounding Braggtown community.
