About Mt Calvary United Church of Christ
Mt Calvary United Church of Christ is a historic Durham congregation founded in 1893. The church merged with the United Church of Christ in 1963 and continues its ministry on Athens Avenue. Rev. Raymond Scott Watkins has served as Senior Pastor since 2019, following a long pastoral history that includes Rev. Dr. Josiah Cecil Cheek, who served for almost 44 years. The former sanctuary was renamed the J.C. Cheek Art And Education Building, reflecting that legacy. The church’s schedule includes Sunday School, Sunday Adoration, Sunday morning worship, and a midweek Prayer Meeting and Bible Study. Children’s ministry is also part of the congregation’s programs.
