About Union Grove Baptist Church
Union Grove Baptist Church is a Baptist congregation in Hurdle Mills with roots reaching back to 1888, when the church purchased 9/10 of an acre for $1.00. Its first building was made of logs, and its first founding members were J. Wiley Bradsher and Noveller Villines Bradsher. From the late 1930s until 1970, the church was known as The Church of the City of God in the Wilderness. The frame structure used after the original log church still stands on the east side of the property. Rev. Rufus L. Johnson, Sr. has served as pastor since being installed in 1990.
