Burnt Swamp Baptist Church is part of the Burnt Swamp Baptist Association, a unique fellowship of 64 churches and 4 missions largely comprised of Native American members from several tribal groups including the Lumbee, Haliwa-Saponi, Coharie, Waccamaw-Siouan, Pee Dee, and Tuscarora. Located in Lumberton, North Carolina, the church is affiliated with both the North Carolina Baptist State Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention. The association, which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2002, is known for its indigenous lay and clergy leadership and its commitment to strengthening program organizations, promoting missions and local ministry, developing Christian leadership, and nurturing fellowship among churches. The church community engages in significant outreach through the Church and Community Ministry program, which assists individuals in critical need, and supports mission work internationally in the Philippines and among Native American communities throughout the country.
