About Centenary United Methodist Church
Centenary United Methodist Church, founded in 1772 and inspired by the preaching of Rev. Joseph Pilmore, stands in the heart of historic downtown New Bern, North Carolina. The current sanctuary, completed in 1904 and renovated in 1966 and 2013, welcomes visitors to experience Christ's love through three Sunday worship services: a traditional service in the Chapel at 8:30 a.m., a contemporary service in the Sanctuary at 9:00 a.m., and another traditional service at 11:00 a.m. The congregation emphasizes music, fellowship, and community outreach through programs including United Methodist Women, Bear Town Youth Ministries, GriefShare support groups, and the Zoe Ministry serving those in need. Handicap-accessible entrances and a nursery for infants and preschoolers during the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. services ensure an inclusive worship environment for all visitors.

Service Format: The 8:30 a.m. Chapel service and 11:00 a.m. Sanctuary service follow a traditional format, while the 9:00 a.m. Sanctuary service is contemporary; all services include a short children's lesson with an option to attend Sunday School afterward. Visitor Tips: Parking is available on the streets in front of the church, in a lot behind the church with entrances on New Street and Middle Street, and in a lot across from the church beside the Federal Court House; the main building entrances are on Middle Street, and an elevator at the church office entrance provides access to the basement and upper levels.
