About First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church in Spruce Pine began in 1908 in an old shoe shop across from what is now Webb Funeral Home. Its early congregation later met in a wooden framed building across the river at the intersection of Greenwood Road and old 226, and a second building begun in the 1920s was finished and occupied in the early 1940s. The sanctuary was renovated in 1989, with an education section and fellowship hall added. The church’s vision is to become a global church that fervently prays, loves people, makes disciples, and is kingdom-focused. Members are connected through a deacon family roster, with each church member’s family assigned a deacon.
