About Canaan United Methodist Church
Canaan United Methodist Church is a United Methodist congregation in Winston Salem and part of the Yadkin Valley District of the Western North Carolina Conference. Sunday mornings include Sunday School at 9:30 AM and worship at 10:30 AM. Children’s Sunday School is offered for birth through grade 4, and nursery care is provided during the 10:30 worship service. Youth in grades 5-12 are invited to FUSION each Sunday after worship at 11:45 AM. The church also offers small groups. Pastor Jay Bowers is beginning his eighth year at Canaan in July 2025.

Dress Code: Not specified — please contact the church directly. Service Format: Sunday School meets at 9:30 AM, followed by a 10:30 AM worship service. Nursery care is provided during worship. Visitor Tips: Families with children can plan for Children’s Sunday School for birth through grade 4 and nursery care during the worship service. Youth in grades 5-12 can stay after worship for FUSION at 11:45 AM.

Founded in 1909
A group of 21 people organized Canaan Methodist Protestant Church after a revival meeting on November 10, 1909. A one-room structure was completed, and the first sermon was preached on the fourth Sunday in March 1911.
