About Zion Lutheran Church
Zion Lutheran Church, located in downtown Akron, Ohio, has served the community since 1854, when German Lutheran families first gathered under the leadership of Rev. Peter Jacob Buehl. The congregation moved into a permanent church home in 1877 and has since expanded and renewed its facilities while maintaining its foundation of faith in Jesus Christ and God's Word. Today, Zion welcomes people from all walks of life and areas of Akron and beyond, gathering to worship, pray, and serve the community through the power and grace of God. The church offers both traditional and contemporary worship experiences rooted in Lutheran tradition and centered on Word and Sacrament. Whether you are new to the Lutheran faith, returning to church, or searching for a place to belong, Zion invites you to experience the warmth of a church family committed to welcoming all who seek hope, grace, and community.

Service Format: Traditional service at 8:00 a.m. Sundays follows historic liturgy centered on Word and Sacrament with Scripture, prayer, and Lutheran hymns; a Praise & Worship service at 9:30 a.m. during summer months blends Lutheran hymns with contemporary songs. Visitor Tips: Holy Communion is observed on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month; baptized Christians who have confessed their sins and believe in the true and real presence of Jesus' body and blood in the bread and wine are invited to participate.
