About Olivet Institutional Baptist Church
Olivet Institutional Baptist Church is one of the nation's leading cathedrals of the African-American religious experience, with a celebrated history spanning nearly a century in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded in 1931 as New Light Baptist Church, it grew into a thriving urban congregation whose pulpit has hosted renowned figures including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. The church embodies a holistic model of ministry focused on spiritual growth, social justice, and community uplift, reflected in its expansive facilities including the O.M. Hoover Christian Community Center and a partnership health clinic. Today, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Jawanza Karriem Colvin, Olivet continues its tradition of advocacy for civil rights, social justice, and enhanced quality of life for the human family. The congregation welcomes visitors to join its Sunday worship services, both in person and online, as part of its spiritual community.
