About Sgi-Usa
SGI-USA in Dayton is part of the most diverse Buddhist community in the United States, practicing Nichiren Buddhism centered on respect for the dignity of human life. Members engage in daily practice at home, chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and reciting portions of the Lotus Sutra to bring forth their Buddha nature and apply Buddhist principles to daily life. The community gathers for monthly neighborhood discussion meetings where members study Buddhist teachings and share experiences of applying Buddhism to life's challenges. Rooted in a global movement founded in 1975 with over 11 million members across 192 countries, SGI-USA emphasizes dialogue, nonviolence, and individual empowerment as pathways to happiness and peace. The organization actively engages in peace activities including human rights education, nuclear abolition efforts, and sustainable development initiatives.
