About Mantua Center Christian Church
Mantua Center Christian Church is the oldest Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregation in Ohio, founded in 1827 and housed in its original 1840 building. The congregation embodies a welcoming theology centered on open minds, open hearts, and open arms—encouraging spiritual inquiry, embracing diversity of belief and interpretation, and extending radical hospitality to all people regardless of economic status, political beliefs, race, sexuality, or ability. As an Open and Affirming community, the church welcomes the LGBTQIA+ community and those historically estranged from religious institutions. The congregation practices open communion with all invited to participate, and operates under the historic Disciples motto, "No creed but Christ, no book but the Bible." Rooted in over 195 years of faithful service in the Mantua community, the church continues its commitment to ease suffering, foster joyful fellowship, and serve as witnesses to the Gospel.
