About Ashland Zen Center
Ashland Zen Center practices Soto Zen Buddhism in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, established in the Rogue Valley in 1992 by Abbot Jintei Harold Little and Abbess Etsudo Patty Krahl. The center welcomes everyone to discover Zen Buddhism through direct experience of zazen (seated meditation) and invites visitors to simply show up and see what happens. Zazen takes place every weekday morning, Wednesday nights, and Sunday mornings, with daylong meditation events, intensive sesshins, Buddhist study, and community activities throughout the year. The center grounds its practice in daily awakening through zazen and everyday activities—working, cooking, cleaning, and caring for loved ones are all considered rich fields for spiritual practice. A compassionate standard of behavior rooted in respect for each person's Buddha nature guides all participants regardless of background or identity.
