About Ashland Zen Center
Ashland Zen Center practices Soto Zen Buddhism in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, established in the Rogue Valley in 1992 by Abbot Jintei Harold Little and Abbess Etsudo Patty Krahl. The center welcomes everyone to discover Zen Buddhism through direct experience, offering zazen (sitting meditation) every weekday morning, Wednesday evening, and Sunday morning, along with daylong meditation events, intensive sesshins, and Buddhist study throughout the year. The community emphasizes that Zen practice extends into all aspects of daily life—working, cooking, cleaning, and caring for others—grounded in the awakening practice of zazen and guided by a compassionate standard of behavior based on respect for each person as a unique expression of Buddha nature.
