About Sgl-Usa
SGI-USA in Lake Oswego is part of the Soka Gakkai International, the most diverse Buddhist community in the United States with over 11 million members across 192 countries. The community practices Nichiren Buddhism, a humanistic philosophy centered on respect for the dignity of life and the belief that all people possess Buddha nature. Members engage in daily personal practice, chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and studying the Lotus Sutra as means to develop wisdom, courage, and compassion. The organization gathers for monthly neighborhood discussion meetings where members study Buddhist principles and share experiences of applying Buddhism to life's challenges, while also engaging in peace activities including human rights education and nuclear abolition efforts.
