About United Methodist Archives
The General Commission on Archives and History (GCAH) is the General Commission on Archives and History of The United Methodist Church, serving as the denomination's premier repository for historical documents, artifacts, and records. Located on the campus of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, GCAH houses over six miles of linear shelving containing primary documentary records of Methodist history alongside a digital vault, artifacts vault, and growing digital exhibits. The organization is dedicated to promoting Methodist heritage through research assistance, online courses, podcasts, speaking engagements, and webinars designed to help church members, scholars, and the public understand and engage with the rich history of United Methodism. GCAH also supports local churches and Annual Conferences through educational programs, research services, and the Local Church Historians' School, helping congregations preserve and share their own stories. Visitors and researchers are welcomed to explore the extensive collections and participate in the various educational and outreach initiatives that bring Methodist history to life for contemporary audiences.
