About Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Allentown serves the five counties of Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton, and Schuylkill in Pennsylvania as part of a vibrant Catholic family of faith centered in the Holy Eucharist. Established in 1961 by Pope John XXIII, the Diocese encompasses 78 parishes with more than 205,000 registered Catholics, representing over 20 percent of the general population across its territory. Under the leadership of Bishop Alfred A. Schlert, the first priest ordained for the Diocese to serve as its Bishop, the organization is dedicated to bringing the Light of Christ to the community through faithful adherence to Church teachings. The Diocese offers extensive ministries including faith formation, sacramental preparation, youth activities, marriage preparation, and social services, welcoming individuals and families seeking spiritual growth and pastoral support.
