About Docese Of Allentown
The Diocese of Allentown is a Roman Catholic family of faith centered in the Holy Eucharist, serving more than 205,000 registered Catholics across five counties in Pennsylvania—Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton, and Schuylkill. Established on January 28, 1961, when Pope John XXIII separated these counties from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Diocese now operates 78 parishes under the leadership of Bishop Alfred A. Schlert, the first priest ordained for the Diocese to be appointed as its Bishop. The Diocese emphasizes faithful adherence to Church teachings and bringing the Light of Christ to the community through a wide range of ministries including youth formation, marriage preparation, vocations, Catholic education, and charitable outreach through Catholic Charities.
