About Trinity Church
Trinity Episcopal Church has served the Athens community since 1842, beginning as a gathering of parishioners at the local academy before establishing itself in a wooden structure in 1847. After a fire destroyed that building in 1851, the congregation relocated temporarily and eventually constructed the present native stone church building in 1860, with the bell tower added the following year. The church is centered on Jesus Christ and the Holy Eucharist as its focal point of worship, drawing from The Book of Common Prayer with readings from Scripture, prayers for all people, and communion. Music plays an integral role in services, featuring a 1902 Hook and Hastings pipe organ played twice monthly by the parish organist, with guitarists accompanying hymns on other Sundays.
