About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation of more than 500 sisters with roots tracing back to seventeenth-century France and a presence in Chester, Pennsylvania since 1847. Founded on the charism of unioning love—bringing neighbor to neighbor and neighbor to God—the congregation has ministered across hospitals, battlefields, schools, orphanages, and community aid services for nearly two centuries. The sisters are known for their wholehearted response to emerging needs and their commitment to spiritual and corporal works of mercy, particularly serving the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Located in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia with sisters working across twelve states, this congregation continues to address urgent contemporary challenges while remaining faithful to their founding spirit of incarnating God's love through service.
