Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church was founded in 1907 by Ruthenian immigrants from the Carpathian Mountains who brought their rich Byzantine Catholic traditions to Clairton. The parish has deep historical roots in the region's industrial heritage and has undergone significant spiritual and physical development over more than a century. Today, the church features stunning Byzantine iconography arranged according to traditional canons, with a monumental iconostasis imported from Italy and icons created by noted San Diego iconographer Mila Mina. The parish maintains active ministries including the Holy Name Society, Ladies Guild, and GCU Lodge, which coordinate community events such as the annual parish picnic. Divine Liturgies are celebrated regularly throughout the week, and the church welcomes visitors to experience the Byzantine rite's unique blend of Eastern spirituality and Roman Catholic communion.
