About St John The Evangelist

St. John the Evangelist is a traditional Episcopal parish in Essington with roots in the community going back to 1902. The church began that year as a mission of Christ Church, Ridley Park. Its present building was built in 1929 and dedicated on January 26, 1930. Responsibility for the mission later passed to St. James, Prospect Park in 1944 and then to the diocese in 1952. In 1958, St. John’s achieved parish status and was admitted to convention. The church offers children’s ministry and a youth group for families connected with the parish.
