About Friedens Luthern Church
Friedens Lutheran Church has served the Friedens, Pennsylvania community for over two hundred years, rooted in its mission to reach outward and build upward to touch lives with the Good News of Jesus Christ. The congregation traces its heritage to the 1780s when settlers gathered on the frontier for strength and comfort from God, and later earned distinction through supporting Father John Christian Frederick Heyer, the first Lutheran missionary sent from the United States, who founded the Lutheran Church in India. Today, Friedens continues as a vibrant, growing faith community dedicated to helping all ages deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ through worship, Christian education, and diverse ministry opportunities. The church actively serves the Somerset area through community outreach programs addressing needs both within and beyond the congregation. An ongoing building expansion demonstrates the church's commitment to providing ministry space for both congregational life and community events, reflecting their vision of allowing Christ's light to shine throughout the community and beyond.
