About Sisters of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation of more than 500 sisters based in Glenside and the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia. Tracing their origins to seventeenth-century France, the sisters arrived in Philadelphia in 1847 and have since ministered in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community services across twelve states. Guided by their foundational charism of unioning love—uniting neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God—the sisters remain committed to addressing urgent challenges facing the poor, the marginalized, and the vulnerable. They continue their legacy of responding generously to spiritual and corporal works of mercy in the twenty-first century.
