About Brethren Housing Association
Brethren Housing Association is a faith-based nonprofit organization rooted in the Church of the Brethren tradition, dedicated to empowering single-parent households experiencing homelessness through stable housing and transformative support services. Founded in 1989 by two Church of the Brethren congregations, BHA has grown into a cornerstone of the Harrisburg community, operating 24 apartments and multiple homes across 16 parcels of land in the Allison Hill neighborhood. Beyond providing shelter, the organization offers trauma-informed care, financial education, and life skills training to help families overcome challenges and build self-reliance. Supported by eight full-time staff members, 13 member churches, and numerous community partners, BHA continues to revitalize neighborhoods and strengthen Harrisburg by demonstrating that when families thrive, entire communities benefit.
