The parish traces its roots to Lebanese immigrants who arrived in the Johnstown area beginning in the 1860s, establishing the formal parish in 1904 under Bishop Raphael Hawaweeny. The church has undergone significant growth and reunification throughout its history, including a merger of two local parishes in 1937 and the construction of its present building in 1968. Today, St. Mary serves the faithful with all services conducted in English, making it an excellent entry point for those experiencing Orthodoxy for the first time. The parish is known for its Byzantine-style interior featuring stained-glass windows and icons, reflecting the rich artistic traditions of Eastern Christianity.
